The Ultimate Cessationism Resource
I came across a great website called The Ultimate Cessationism Resource. This website has recommended books, articles, as well as mp3′s. What is cessationism? Cessationism is the belief that the miraculous gifts (prophecy, tongues, healing) have ceased and that they were given only for the foundation of the church.
Some may say that there is no clear reference in Scripture that supports cessationism. However, I believe that 1 Corinthians 13:8-12 is a very strong reference in support of cessationism. Furthermore, there is some debate as to what “but then face to face” means. Those who deny that the Corinthians passage proves cessationism believes that this phrase is talking about seeing Jesus face to face. Which would then mean that the miraculous gifts are still in effect until Jesus returns. But when taken in its context and by looking at the pericope exegetically, it then becomes clear that this is not what the phrase means.
Check out cessationism.com, my previous article, and the exegetical outline below to help grasp a better understanding of the miraculous gifts and why many believe that they ended with the Apostles.
